TSB v0.15 is out!
TL;DR: Inventory system was added and combat has been rebalanced. Same core, but more ways to express yourself as a Hero.
Would you believe it, an entire year has passed since the last devlog! So what has changed between versions 0.10 and 0.15?
The entire balancing of DMG / EV / MIT / TH has changed with the addition of a new stat for combat units - PWR. This represents the Power of this unit and is applied to all attacks and many other abilities and effects. This allows a more delicate scaling of attack and defence stats to make some units practically immune to a bunch of farmers trying to shoot them with bows, yet still allowing the heroes to be as dangerous as they should be. All of these changes mean that all unit stats and factions needed to be updated. During which we got a new playable faction - Bastion. It is a cross-national monastic order focused on dealing with all threats demonic, undead and alien. As long as its not political.
Action economy has been slightly changed, allowing for new people to understand it more intuitively. Now you don't need to figure out how many APs you have once your turn is over.
Hero classes are now separate from one-another, rather than being attached to roles. If you get a new combat class, you can immediately see everything you get with it in a single place.
Inventory system has been added. Rather than keeping track of 20+ items during combat, most of which are useless, you now carry a few combinations of weapons and/or shields (functioning almost like loadouts) into combat, swapping between them with a single action. You also have:
* Armor that provides you combat bonuses beyond just defence.
* Shields that you have to actively use for them to be useful.
* Consumable items with single-use yet powerful effects.
* More weapons, that are now separated in how many hands are needed to wield them.
While you can have multiple combat classes, the inventory sheet is shared between them. Pick your tools carefully before venturing forth!
Now that the base system is properly functional, I am running two home campaigns using TSB. We've been playing since late spring and it heartens me to see that players are only growing more enthusiastic about playing. And I am just as enthusiastic about doing more for TSB. On a related note, what am I working on right now?
* Setting primer with playable species, factions, etc.
* More monsters for your heroes to fight.
* An updated magic system paired up with rare resource collection and a crafting minigame.
If you want to participate in a playtest ran by me, have a quick primer on how to play TSB as a GM, or tell me how your games went, feel free to hit me up either below this post or tag me on bluesky.
